California construction worker dies in job site accident

Construction workers in California know that their jobs can be dangerous at times. The tasks they perform and the equipment they work with can cause a job site accident if people aren’t careful. When safety procedures aren’t followed at a construction site, the outcome can often cause serious injury and even death.

Robert A. Bothman Construction was doing some work on an elementary school in Berkeley recently. As one of the company’s workers was putting down asphalt for a track, an 18-wheeler was parked on a slope nearby. Somehow, that truck rolled down the slope and ran over the construction worker.

The man was killed in the accident. The coroner listed the man’s cause of death as “extensive blunt force trauma.” The California division of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has confirmed that it will be conducting the investigation into this worker’s death. The agency has six months to complete the investigation. At this point, investigators are not willing to discuss any conclusions they may have already reached regarding the accident.

The construction worker killed in this job site accident had been with the construction company for nearly 25 years. Under California law, his family may be entitled to survivor’s benefits from workers’ compensation insurance that is required to be carried by every employer. The man’s family may also file a wrongful death claim in connection with their loved one’s death. Monetary compensation will never take the place of this man with his family, but it may help them with any financial difficulty they have encountered since his death.
