Sometimes known as “the forgotten first responders”, the individuals who work on power lines can face dangers on the job. Workplace injuries are a reality for this industry, and can come with grave consequences. Recently, one man in California lost his life due to an accident while servicing the power lines in the state.
Originally hailing from a neighboring state, the man had recently relocated to California to pursue his passion of working on the power lines. In late Jan. 2018, the man was injured on the job while working on the lines. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but sadly, the man died from his injuries.
This man leaves behind a young wife and two children. Friends and family have started a GoFundMe account for the family, and the wife reports that she has been overwhelmed with supportive messages, even from strangers. The man’s best friend shared that this particular line of work can be considered grueling and dangerous. Because of the tough nature of the job, the individuals who perform it become a tightly knit, close community.
A tragedy like this one that occurred in California is truly sad for the man’s friends, family, wife and two small children. The funds from charity fundraisers will certainly be a boon to the grieving widow, but she may still find herself in need of continued support after the news story fades. Luckily, for widows like her, and other individuals affected by the loss of a loved one on the job, the workers’ compensation program provides benefits to surviving families. When dealing with a workers’ comp case, many people choose to hire an attorney who can help get the needed benefits for the family.
