Be aware of potential workplace accidents when handling grain

Recently, the California Department of Industrial Relation's Division of Occupational Safety and Health took the opportunity to remind our state's agricultural employers about the dangers of grain handling and working in confined spaces. In recent history, the number of workplace accidents involving workers killed in confined spaces such as grain silos has increased. In 2010, two people were killed. In 2011, that number increased to seven.

Electrician killed in construction accident at California school

The California Department of Industrial Relations Division of Occupational Safety and Health is investigating an incident that occurred at an elementary school here in the state. The agency will have six months to investigate the cause of the construction accident that killed an electrician. Hopefully, the investigation will give the family some much needed answers.

California may limit workers' compensation for athletes

There are numerous professional athletic teams in our state. There are football teams, baseball teams, hockey teams, soccer teams and basketball teams from all over the country may have played games here each season. Under current California law, athletes that have ever played a game in our state may file workers' compensation claims for "cumulative" injuries.

Construction workers in California know that their jobs can be dangerous at times. The tasks they perform and the equipment they work with can cause a job site accident if people aren't careful. When safety procedures aren't followed at a construction site, the outcome can often cause serious injury and even death.
