California warehouse workers at risk of workplace injuries

Several workers at a California warehouse were recently suspended from their jobs. The workers claim that the company used their five minute break to get out of the heat as an excuse to suspend them. They say the real reason they were suspended was because they made complaints to the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration back in May regarding the fact they are at risk for workplace injuries.

Walmart to make improvements to avoid workplace accidents

Many workers in California know that their employers are responsible for ensuring a safe place to work. Even companies as large as Walmart are required to do what they can to avoid workplace accidents. Recently, Walmart agreed to a settlement with the Department of Labor regarding safety violations discovered during an inspection at a Walmart on the east coast.

Construction accident kills California worker

A portion of Highway 99 in Merced County is under construction. Teichert Construction, a family owned business, was handling the project. On July 30, the company lost one of its own in a construction accident.

California industrial accident: Refinery safety report drafted

The fire at the Chevron refinery in Richmond spawned a multi-agency task force called "California's Interagency Working Group on Refinery Safety" that has been working to improve safety at our state's refineries. The objective is to prevent even one industrial accident such as the Chevron refinery fire. A draft of the report includes measure designed to augment current safety procedures, improve oversight in refineries and enhance emergency preparedness.
